History of Fantasy Sports
The History of Fantasy Sports first began with "rotisserie" baseball back in the early 1980's because the sport of baseball is a game of totally statistics. Since stats are the basis in any fantasy sports league all sports soon had fantasy leagues.
In the early 1980's stats were hard to come by before the age of ESPN and the internet but since Major League Baseball, was a league of statistics of slugging percentage, ERA's , fielding percentages, homeruns and RBI's, etc. Baseball fans scoured through the newspaper box scores in this era which initially confined fantasy sports to the hardcore Major League Baseball fans. During the early 1980's NFL fans caught word from their friends how much fun they were having with fantasy baseball game. and since the NFL football games had
box scores and stats a new type of fantasy sports game was started. Your TV computer games by the creator Atari were one of the first to develop commercial home video games such as sports video games. They then would take statistics from existing teams and feed the stats into a computer program and then two players would play the game and by odds and chance based on these statistics a winner was determined and was statistical process along the same concept as fantasy baseball, leading to renewed interest by other sports fans such as football.
With the coming of age of the computer and the internet In the mid 1990's a
radical change happened where statistics were readily available from a wide range of sports at a moments notice.
Today, from unofficial estimation, there are more fantasy football leagues than any other fantasy sport league including baseball. Fantasy sports have grown way beyond the NFL
Football and Major League Baseball. There are now fantasy sports leagues for almost every major sport in the United States, whether it is college or professional - including basketball, hockey, golf, racing, tennis and so on and so on.
Fantasy Sports leagues have proven to be so popular that there are highly rated television shows for fantasy sports such as the Fox Sport's Weekly Fantasy Football Show and every major sport such as NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, Racing, Golf have a Fantasy Magazine. These magazines provide all types of information and analysis in information for fantasy team owners with page after page of game statistics.
